Sustainability Committee to Host Parliamentary Briefing and Showcase in Canberra

30 March, 2026

The Swedish Australian Chamber of Commerce (SACC) Sustainability Committee is organising a Parliamentary Briefing and Industry Showcase in Canberra, targeted for September 2026.

This initiative forms part of the Committee’s 2026 strategic focus on parliamentary engagement, including closer collaboration with the Parliamentary Country Group of Sweden. Early discussions with parliamentary representatives have indicated strong support for the event, with planning underway in partnership with the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra.

The proposed format will combine:

  • A closed-door policy briefing and roundtable discussion between Swedish-affiliated companies and parliamentarians
  • A Mural Hall showcase, where member companies can engage directly with MPs, senators, and staffers through interactive displays and discussions

This format—successfully used by other industry groups—aims to create meaningful dialogue and strengthen connections between business and policymakers.

Focused Policy Themes

To ensure impact, the Committee has aligned on three themes, supported by practical case studies and clear recommendations to government. Proposed themes include:

  • Circularity and waste infrastructure
Addressing regional recycling challenges and advancing product stewardship
  • Decarbonisation and the energy transition
Including grid development, planning processes, and policy consistency across states
  • Electrification and EV fleets
Supporting the transition to low-emission transport solutions

The forum will also enable targeted engagement with key ministers, stakeholders, and policymakers, ensuring that industry perspectives are clearly communicated at a national level.

Call for Member Participation

SACC members are encouraged to express their interest in participating in and shaping this important initiative. The event presents a unique opportunity to contribute to policy discussions, showcase innovation, and engage directly with decision-makers.
