SACC Sustainability Committee Sets New Leadership and Clear Priorities for 2026

The SACC Sustainability Committee met in the end of November 2025 to wrap up a strong year of activity and set the direction for 2026. The meeting also marked a leadership transition, with the Committee warmly thanking Flavia Vaz, Corporate Affairs Director at Tetra Pak Oceania for her outstanding chairship over the past three years. Flavia’s leadership has helped grow a high-energy, inclusive and action-oriented forum that has expanded beyond events to meaningful policy engagement and advocacy. Flavia will remain an active member of the Committee.

The Committee welcomed Simon Fontana, Head of External Affairs and Strategy at AstraZeneca ANZ as the new Chair and Annie Miley, Sustainability Lead at Sandvik Australia as Vice Chair. Simon and Annie shared their focus on building a clear, practical agenda for 2026 and increasing member participation through shared projects and smaller working groups.

A key outcome of the meeting was agreement on a refreshed Committee structure: a single, combined Committee meeting to be held bi-monthly with additional project meetings scheduled as needed around events or priority initiatives.

Members also discussed key focus areas for the year ahead, including opportunities to align with COP-related activity in collaboration with Team Sweden, strengthening engagement with federal stakeholders through the newly established Friends of Sweden group, and advancing work on circular economy and product stewardship—including showcasing Swedish best practice and exploring opportunities for Australian–Swedish industry collaboration. Further priorities raised included clean tech jobs and skills for the transition, as well as a practical knowledge-sharing stream on sustainability reporting and disclosures (including ASRS, Scope 3 and cross-functional learnings).

The next Committee meeting will take place in early February 2026, with members invited to register interest in the focus areas they would like to contribute to.
