Paradise Lost – Daniel Solander’s Legacy – art exhibition touring Australia in 2020-2021
This year marks 250 years since Swedish botanist Daniel Solander’s arrival to Australia onboard HMS Endeavour. To commemorate the legacy of Daniel Solander and the first encounter between Sweden and the Pacific Region, Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia, the Solander Gallery in Wellington commissioned ten New Zealand-based artists to bring their unique vision of Daniel Solander, his legacy and of these historical events of 1769 and 1770. The Paradise Lost art exhibition was born.
The exhibition has during 2019 been touring New Zealand and has also been shown in Piteå, Sweden, Daniel Solander’s hometown.
Together with the Solander Gallery in Wellington, the Embassy of Sweden is delighted to bring the Paradise Lost exhibition to Australia.
Paradise Lost – Daniel Solander’s Legacy will be exhibited at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney 9 October 2020 – 14 February 2021.
