NEW STARTUP MEMBER: New Energy Transport (NET)

New Energy Transport (NET) is a vertically integrated trucking company that combines low-cost renewable energy and electric trucks to deliver zero-emission heavy road freight. The company is pioneering an innovative business model which utilises onsite batteries and the wholesale electricity market to match the cost of diesel-based freight.

NET was founded in 2024 by Fredrik Pehrsson and Daniel Bleakley to accelerate the decarbonisation of Australia’s heavy road freight sector. Initially established as a consultancy advising industry stakeholders on transport electrification, the founders identified a growing gap between transport buyers seeking zero-emission freight and fleet operators lacking the capability to deliver it.

NET subsequently evolved into a full-service electric transport company, developing a vertically integrated model combining battery-electric trucks with strategically located high-power charging depots for long-distance freight.

“Australia is the second most road freight dependent country in the world per capita. With a heavy truck fleet averaging 13 years, transport is projected to be the largest source of greenhouse gases in Australia by 2030,” says NET Co-Founder Fredrik Pehrsson. “Given that the country also runs the heaviest truck combinations in the world, the leverage of transitioning to a cheaper form of energy is higher than anywhere else. With an abundance of renewable energy sources, Australia is very well placed for electric zero-emission heavy road freight”.

Fredrik Pehrsson

As former Head of Innovation at global truck manufacturer Scania, Fredrik led the development of cutting-edge electric road freight solutions and headed the company’s start-up incubator. He has scaled several companies and, prior to founding NET, advised the Australian road freight industry and the Big Three management consulting firms on decarbonisation and automation technologies.

Daniel Bleakley

With a career spanning engineering, business, politics, journalism and entrepreneurship, Daniel has strong relationships in the clean tech private and public sector. As former lead reporter at EV news site The Driven, he has a deep understanding of the opportunities in electrified transport. 100 years ago, the Bleakley family founded the electric truck manufacturer British Electric Vehicles.
