Strengthening Industry–University Collaboration: Co-Designing R&D Projects with the University of Melbourne
The Swedish Australian Chamber of Commerce (SACC), in partnership with the University of Melbourne (UoM), is pleased to launch a new Industry–University Partnership initiative designed to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia.
This initiative aims to create practical and accessible pathways for collaboration between the University of Melbourne and Swedish companies operating in Australia, with a particular focus on innovation, sustainability, research, and long-term industry engagement.
Building Connections Between Industry and Academia
Following the successful Swedish Australian Innovation, Technology and Design Summit held in September 2025, there has been growing interest in deeper collaboration between SACC member companies and University of Melbourne researchers.
While both industry and academia recognise the significant opportunities collaboration can create, many companies have highlighted that navigating university environments and identifying the right research pathways can at times be challenging.
This new initiative has been developed to help bridge that gap by providing a practical starting point for engagement.
A Structured Pathway for Collaboration
Through the Industry–University Partnership initiative, UoM and SACC invite member companies to participate in co-design workshops and collaborative discussions focused on:
- Identifying industry challenges and innovation opportunities
- Exploring research and development partnerships
- Developing industry-relevant research projects
- Creating pathways for long-term collaboration between business and academia
The initiative is designed to provide companies with a structured and accessible entry point to engage with UoM researchers and explore opportunities for future partnerships.
Supporting Innovation and Future Skills
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to fostering innovation, supporting industry transformation, and strengthening connections between research, business, and future workforce development.
By bringing together industry expertise and academic research capabilities, the initiative aims to support impactful projects that contribute to both commercial outcomes and broader societal benefit.
