‘We’ the three Swedish best friends; Linda, Diana and Sophie opened Fika [Fee-ka] Swedish Kitchen in Manly in 2013. We love sharing the Scandinavian food and culture with all of Australia, starting in the heart of Sydney. We’ve dreamed of opening a second shop for the last few years and we’re over the moon to say hej hej (hello) to Bondi!
Fika is a Swedish word that translates as ‘taking a break for coffee and a bite to eat’. But really it’s much more than that. It’s a moment to relax, to catch up with your family and to laugh with your friends. It’s making up for lost time, or part of your daily ritual. A cosy escape, or a refreshing pause. It’s the time between meals, the place between destinations. There’s always time for Fika and our kitchen is your kitchen, so make yourself at home.
One of our passions is reuse and we’re proud to say that 95% of Fika Bondi’s interior was sourced from all over Sydney or literally hand made by us. See more of that process on our insta story. So it made sense for us to partner with Swedish Nudie Jeans in retailing their Re-use shorts line, made from unused jeans with slight defects.
We also love supporting local small businesses which is why we have hand made coffee cups by our Norwegian friend Lene, hand made glass straws by our Japanese friend Mai and serve Okay Coffee, roasted by our good friend Bo.
Our meatballs are hand-rolled, buns and desserts are all baked from scratch and we even bake our own bread. It’s a slightly sweet bread, spiced with fennel, aniseed and caraway called Having. Hope to see you soon.
