SACC Melbourne invite members and guests to the opening screening event for the film season celebrating Mai Zetterling, ‘Gemini Rising: The Cinema of Mai Zetterling’ at ACMI, 1 July, 6.30pm
It’s time to re-evaluate Mai Zetterling’s status as a key figure of European Modernist Cinema and celebrate the life and career of one of cinema’s true trailblazers. The Swedish movie star’s work as a director has been compared to the celebrated films of Ingmar Bergman and Federico Fellini, but for many, her films are still relatively unknown, even in Australia, the country she called home in her childhood.
The event includes the feature film, Loving Couples (1964), Zetterling’s feature film debut as a director and the short film, The War Game (1963). The session kicks off at 6:30 pm, ACMI, Cinema 2, with a short introduction by Curator, Reece Goodwin who has worked on the season.
