The COVID outbreaks have affected and impacted states and local government areas in various ways. Throughout the year it has been very difficult, close to impossible to confirm plans, mid or long term, make commitments, book and pay for travel and accommodation, arrange and invite to gatherings or just to give the kids a travel promise for the upcoming school break. Despite all the challenges SACC has been able to host, in every chapter, a few in person events throughout the year. Each chapter team have been agile and adjusted along the way, depending on local COVID rules and regulations. Right now, the encouraging part is the speed of vaccination uptake across all states and territories. When targets are reached it will give completely different prerequisites for the year 2022 activity calendar planning.
We have as a tradition to invite members and guests to the SACC Annual Christmas Event with the announcement of the Business Awards winners. This event is traditionally held towards the end of November in Sydney. Based on the current information, possible easing of COVID restrictions and projection of what will be possible and not possible for large indoor gatherings, it is with regret to inform you that we will not be able to host this event in 2021. As an alternative, each chapter are exploring the opportunities for smaller Christmas gatherings in each state. In some chapters, indoor gatherings might be an option while in others events in an outdoor environment will be the safest option. We will announce chapter plans as they are confirmed.
On a positive note, the 2021 Swedish Business in Austalia Awards presentation will take place virtually on 25 November. The winners in each category will automatically get a place on stage at the Swedish-Australian Innovation Technology & Design Summit, 15-16 March 2022, at the University of Technology Sydney (read more below).
I am also taking the opportunity to announce that the 110th SACC Annual General Meeting will be held 28 October, 2021 and will be hosted online. Agenda and online invitations will be distributed to SACC members.
All the best and stay safe,
Jan Gardberg, President Swedish Australian Chamber of Commerce |
